Volunteering

Who Are Volunteers?

Ordinary people who want to make a difference. They come from all walks of life and all age groups.

They have a diverse range of life experience and are loyal committed contributors to the life of the hospital and hospice.

Volunteers at St. Patrick’s Hospital & Marymount Hospice complement paid staff in caring for the patients.

Where and When?

Volunteers give freely of their time in many different areas of the hospital and hospice.

  • In Day Care
  • On the wards
  • In offices
  • Fundraising where ever the event takes them
  • Driving patients to Day Care
  • Letter writing
  • Beauty care
  • Beauty treatments
  • Washing up after meals
  • Hand and nail care
  • Mobile library
  • “Happy Hour”
  • Flower care
  • Poetry readings
  • Photography workshops
  • Music
  • Driving the minibus
  • Escorting patients on outings

Most volunteers give at least two hours once a week on a day that suits the needs of both patient and volunteer.

Why Volunteer

  • To help others
  • To meet new people
  • To learn a new skill
  • To give something back
  • To make a difference
  • To feel needed
  • Because others are doing it
  • To be of use
  • To support my local community
  • To cheer people up
  • For fun
  • To keep busy
  • To do something different
  • To make a change
  • To be challenged
  • To make an impact

There are as many reasons to volunteer as there are people who volunteer.
