Bereavement & Family Support

Our team of Social Workers offers individual support and counselling to patients and family members as they struggle with the practical, social, emotional and psychological consequences of advanced illness. We also facilitate meetings where families get the opportunity to meet with staff to discuss their concerns, to exchange information and to contribute to, and understand, the plan of care for the patient.

Newly-widowed parents of young children are offered the option of attending a monthly 'Parent Support Group' facilitated by a social worker and a volunteer. The aim of the group is to help parents deal with their new situation at a time when they and their children are grieving.

A short bereavement course is also offered to children who have lost a parent or sibling. This is a weekly programme run by trained and experienced social workers over a six week period. Individual support is also available to both the surviving parent and to children, where appropriate.

Individual bereavement counselling is also available.
