Home Care

The Home Care Team:

The Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care or the Home Care Nurse works in partnership with the patient’s Doctor and Public Health Nurse. The Doctor retains full responsibility for pain and symptom control. The support provided by the Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care complements that provided by the Doctor and Public Health Nurse and does not replace it.

The Home Care Team endeavours to support families and the primary carer in the community in helping to keep a patient at home. The Team consists of Clinical Nurse Specialists in Palliative Nursing supported by members of the Multidisciplinary Team from Marymount Hospice. The Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care is committed to providing support and professional expertise to patients and their families. Patients and families can meet with the Co-Ordinator of Palliative Home Care Nursing Services prior to being visited at home

This is a free service and is available from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., 7-days a week, with a backup telephone advisory service outside of these hours from Marymount Hospice. The Palliative Home Care Service does not visit patients after 5:00 p.m.

The Team serves Cork City and County, and is based at Marymount Hospice, with a Satellite Service based on the grounds of Bantry General Hospital (Tel: 027 53436). There is a Palliative Care Service based at Kerry General Hospital, Tralee (Tel: 066 7126222).
