Day Care

The aim of Palliative Day Care is to maintain or improve quality of life through
the provision of care by a multi-professional team, helping patients to remain at home.
This is a free service and is available to patients who are part of the Palliative Care Service within the Cork Area. The patient's General Practitioner/Doctor or Hospital Consultant will make the appropriate referral.

Patients may attend once or twice a week, giving them and their family a change from routine. Their time with us can be "their special time” with ample opportunity to discuss needs and problems with the Day Care Staff. Close contact is maintained with General Practitioner/Doctor and Public Health Nurse who remain the primary carer.

Where possible a family member or friend is asked to bring the patient to the Day Care Centre. The Hospital Minibus or volunteer drivers are available for those with transport difficulties and who live within an 8-kilometre radius of the city.

Both the patient and their family are encouraged to visit by prior arrangement and will be greeted by a member of staff.

This service operates 5 days a week from 9.30am -3.30pm
